A scrappy comic

Today I'm showing you a fun project that I made for the February challenge at Up&Scrap for which you could only use ink and cardstock. I wanted to make something unique... something that I had never done with scrap material... a comic page! Let's have look at it, and I'll tell you a bit about the process...

I framed it and it's now decorating my scraproom, but in order to see all the details, I took the rest of the pictures, without the frame. Let's have a closer look...

Translation of the story:

It's the year 2096 and planet earth is devastated by pollution. Tecnology has advanced in all other fields except in environmental protection.

The only ones who care about this situation are a group of inhabitants from a faraway planet called Bazuu... and their leader Captain Zurca.

He wants to vacuum all the atmospheric pollution with his Z-HOOVER.

3.. 2.. 1.. 0.. Activating Z-hoover at maximum capacity!

I actually invented and drew this story many years ago (it was three pages long) and I thought I would be able to shorten it enough to fit only one page, using stamps mostly from the sets "Space cadet" and "Squeeky clean" from Paper Smooches.

I started with a raw sketch to try out my stamps without masking or anything, just to see that everything would fit.

I used my sketch to divide my Neenah Solar white cardstock into different boxes. I also decided to work on the two most complicated scenes separately (the city scape and the cloud shaped area).

Here are some pics of the process, mixing stamping with drawing...

Little by little I stamped and coloured, sometimes I needed to do some masking as well, so that I could leave white spaces or ink backgrounds using Distress inks.

It was a lot more time-consuming than I had imagined, but I think the result is worth the effort. The fun little messages from this scene are from the set "Small talk" by Mama Elephant.

The vacuum cleaner, one of the most important elements of this story, is from the set "Squeeky Clean" by Paper Smooches...

The most complicated scene of the comic, was without a doubt, the sequence in which the earth's crust is vacuumed...

OK, so that's it... I hope that you participate in this fun challenge. You can see all the details and the rest of the participations at Up&Scrap's blog. See you next time.
